Description

This is a bespoke unit for Dorset HealthCare University Trust and is part of the Dorset HealthCare Leadership Development Pathway. 

The EPL 2: Managing and Leading Organisational Change unit can enable you to gain academic / professional credit for the learning and practical work associated with the Dorset HealthCare Leadership Development Pathway. 

Aims: 

This unit has been developed for healthcare professionals who wish to evidence their continuing professional practice development. Therefore, the focus of the unit is the consolidation of, and evidencing of, professional competence within a practice arena. 

Students can take this unit up to three times provided the focus of their study is different on each occasion. 

PreRequisites

Normally students may enter level 6 study if they have been awarded: 

  • Advanced Diploma, HND, Dip HE or Foundation Degree (awarded by a UK HEI or Edexcel or SQA) 
  • An equivalent qualification (the learning outcome of which are demonstrably appropriate in terms of knowledge, understanding and skills) equivalent to 120 credits at Level 5. 

If you do not meet the criteria you are still able to apply for this unit but we may ask you for evidence to confirm your employer will support you and/or ask you to complete pre-admission work. Please contact the Course Leader for more information.

Assessment

Your assignment will be in the form of a reflective essay the purpose of which is to uncover and explore your learning from this experience. The assignment needs to demonstrate reflective critical analysis and evaluation of how you have applied some of your acquired knowledge and learning from the Dorset HealthCare University Trust  Evidencing Professional Learning: Leadership Pathway to practice; and the impact/change this has had on others, i.e., team members, colleagues as appropriate. It should make use of your on-going critical reflection on the process and outcomes of putting the learning into practice to achieve change and/or improvement, plus any feedback received. It must also integrate some additional reading (via your organisation’s intranet materials for the programme, plus Bournemouth University library resources). 

Learning Outcomes

Having completed this unit the student is expected to:

  1. Evidence the knowledge and skills required to be a competent, proficient registered practitioner in their specific care field
  2. Demonstrate competency in expanding/having expanded knowledge and skills in keeping with their professional body, employer and NHS/DH frameworks (where applicable), in order to develop their practice
  3. Critically reflect on the problem-solving, communication, management and leadership skills needed to work as an effective registered practitioner
  4. Work effectively as an integrated member of the team delivering quality care to patients/clients
  5. Critically examine their personal and professional development

Mode of Delivery
After the initial briefing at Dorset Healthcare the tutor will provide two sessions of input for each unit. These may be in person or online. The first will focus on explaining the unit and the assignment, professional learning / development and Bournemouth University resources. The second will be in the form of a group tutorial. The tutor is also available as an academic adviser for formative assessment, advice and support on request.
