The content included in this module will provide students with the tools to develop their skills in advanced health assessment and clinical examination and also help to recognise a range of diagnostic indicators. This content will be delivered using a variety of teaching materials and practical sessions.

Two years experience within an appropriate acute, emergency or primary care setting is advised.

This module is a pre-requisite to undertake the following modules:

7HSK2079- Managing Minor Injuries

7HSK2084 - Minor Illness – Diagnostics and Interventions

Applicants will normally need a degree in a health-related discipline. Applicants with evidence of professional development or academic proficiency equivalent to level 6 (degree level) study will be considered but will first need to meet with the admissions tutor, Aileen Wilson, to discuss their application. Applicants with no previous level 6 study, or equivalent, will be required to complete a level 6 bridging module.                                                                

If you have non-UK academic qualifications you will need to supply evidence of comparability. The organisation ECCTIS will supply this for a reasonable fee https://www.enic.org.uk/Qualifications/SOC/Default.aspx.

You should also have current professional registration (NMC, HCPC etc) and be employed as a health care professional in an appropriate setting. 

If you are a self-funding student, it is your responsibility to ensure that before you apply for this module, you have access to appropriate supervision.  If you need to access alternative clinical environments in order to evidence advanced practice hours, then we strongly recommend you arrange supervision well in advance of applying for this module. Please note that UH does not provide access to or supply letters to enable students to gain access to various clinical environments.  Failure to have this support in place will leave you at a disadvantage in meeting the learning outcomes of this module.

The summative assessment for this module is a simulated physical examination.

The student's ability will be tested to undertake a comprehensive simulated physical examination using a variety of technological tools which may include: video, narrative presentations, OSCE or online viva/professional conversations.
