This module is designed to allow students to explore a range of topics relating to the theory of resuscitation of patients with acute, life-threatening presentations in the emergency, out of hospital setting. It will cover the presentation, underpinning pathophysiology, aetiology, epidemiology and management of those conditions.

It is designed to offer the opportunity to explore the theory which underpins clinical paramedic management.

Registered paramedics with experience of working in the emergency, out of hospital care setting.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Critically discuss the epidemiology and aetiology of a range of diseases and how they relate to paramedic practice
  2. Exercise clinical governance and critical reflection of critically unwell patients through case presentation and discussion
  3. Critically discuss the anatomy, physiology and related pathophysiology of a range of diseases and how they relate to paramedic practice
  4. Gather and evaluate a range of assessment findings in order to recognise the peri-arrest patient
  5. Formulate and discuss an appropriate evidence based management plan based upon assessment findings
  6. Evaluate the research underpinning the paramedic management of peri-arrest patients
