Description

This module is suitable for all registered healthcare practitioners wishing to gain a foundation in the knowledge and skills required to provide evidence based care within a primary care setting.

 

The module content reflects the diverse nature of this area of practice and includes the exploration of contemporary professional issues, screening and health promotion, skills based competencies and the management of long term conditions.

The aim of the module is to enable those with no previous specialist knowledge to gain an evidence based understanding of the specialist knowledge and skills required for general practice nursing.

 

PreRequisites

 

Applicants should have a minimum of 6 months working in a primary care environment.

 

Students should be working in a relevant primary care environment that provides relevant learning opportunities. 

 

Assessment

Written assignment and competency assessment document (CAD)

Learning Outcomes
  1. Critically discuss contemporary issues relating to the structure and delivery of primary care services.
  2. Demonstrate a critical approach to the assessment of patients in primary care, utilizing a range of strategies.
  3. Critically explore and deliver evidence based care for patients within the primary care setting.
  4. Appraise the professional/ ethical and legal issues relating to the role of the primary care nurse.
  5. Evaluate holistic strategies for the provision of health? promotion/ public health in the primary care setting.

Mode of Delivery
Online learning & classroom - NOTE: In the autumn term, due to Covid-19 social distancing requirements, face-to-face teaching will be limited to clinically focused modules incorporating practical skills teaching. This will remain the case throughout the 2020/21 academic year, until social distancing requirements can be sufficiently relaxed to allow a greater proportion of on-site teaching. At the time of writing, it is not known when this will be.
