Description

This module is for all health and social care practitioners who are responsible for the facilitation of learning and the assessment of other professionals.

The module enables health and social care practitioners to develop their skills, knowledge and approaches to become mentors and meet the NMC Stage 2 Mentor standard.

The module will develop your ability to successfully manage and evaluate the learning environment, facilitate learning and teaching, enable honest and accountable assessment of learners, act as an agent of change and maintain quality in both the learning and assessment process. You will develop a capacity to promote evidence-based learning for all: learners/students, service users, carers and colleagues, within a culture of interprofessional practice.

The course is also offered as a postgraduate (level 7) award and Non-Credit Bearing.

PreRequisites

- Please discuss with your education lead the level of study for which you are applying. If your organisation has agreed funding for a non-credit bearing module and you wish to gain credits towards an award (by self-funding), then please select the appropriate credit bearing option in the first instance.

- In line with Nursing and Midwifery Standards to support learning and assessment in practice (NMC 2008) applicants are expected to complete a minimum of 10 days, 5 of which are protected learning time and demonstrate learning in both the academic and practice setting

- Applicants must meet the minimum entry requirement as specified in the Admissions Policy for Continuing Personal and Professional and will have normally completed at least 12 months full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience.

- Access to pre-registration students is essential to meet the practice assessment requirement.

- A verified sign-off mentor is required to assess the practice based assessments.

For nurses and AHPs: practice competency assessment and scenario based essay.

For midwives: practice competency assessment, scenario based essay and sign-off mentor component.
